@StevenSaul @_philedmonds_ @974RockFM Final Part . True story. I’d grown up digitally editing so Paul Jordan on my first weekend had to teach me how to edit on reel . This felt old skool and I remember going home thinking I was never gonna be able to do this . I honestly nearly quit first day .

@_philedmonds_ @974RockFM @RadioAndy The tapes would have been reused and recorded over, so perhaps there was a glitchy one.

Is that spool of tape the "Non Stop Top 20" reel that back in the 1990s was reused again and again at some point had got chewed/damaged and every single night on @974RockFM there was a similar audio glitch in the middle. Seem to recall it was mixed by @RadioAndy

@StevenSaul @_philedmonds_ @974RockFM Part 4 : … kit for this type of idea - so my Atari saved the day ( I could sample only 15 seconds at time given its memory !) Hope you’re not bored now but yes tape edits caused problems and stability along with the setup . Btw not their fault just was a new concept at time

@StevenSaul @_philedmonds_ @974RockFM Part 3 : the amount of edits I had to do on the reel obviously was a lot then if I was having to reuse tape from elsewhere that often had edits also on it . It was just one of those things whereby you try and make do with the kit you have to use and Rock just didn’t have ….

Rock had no Daw/dalet etc and no vari speed cds or decks so I would have to use a second reel to reel to bounce a track or use that to mix along with my Atari . I’d use a Dat to record a chunk of the bit I was mixing then bounce back reel to reel . ….

Sometimes fresh other times i would have to reuse one given cost . I would bring my Atari St as I could

@BenAtkinsRadio @markgoodier A pal Jean -Michel Meschin made work parts that we could use along with our bits . The show was a 3 hr long production piece full of sound design , song edits and packages . We’d create imaging / mixes / promo skits etc as we built it on the wknd of broadcast - Show wasn’t live.

@markgoodier @MrMattLomax @steve3pt0 I was Pd at the time ,We’d all work our wkends building the show after a long week doing our day jobs . Mixing an hour each ( which would often crash Dalet ( no Protools at first ) . Became the most listened to chart in the Uk. Hard work … great team !

@Chris_Mr_T Oh wow . Well I tried … had a long think … then ok I cheated in the end . ‘ Dreams - 2 Bros 4th Floor . Quite the flashback - hasn’t aged that well but nice to hear again. I remember buying it in Amsterdam . Thanks for the memory !

Growing up in the NWest everyone listened to Stu Allan on Key103. The thumping soundtrack to your mates car, the beat of the school common room and his mixtapes/radio show CDRs you’d swap with pals. He did mixes for me on Kiss in the early 2000s & was the nicest guy. RIP Stu

@seanvoice Thanks :) I loved working closely on this with the talented producers I had over the years . So important to have a good brand look and sound that has clarity and a solid identity .

Just had a great conversation with a top US program director about station branding and was describing the great work @RadioAndy crafted at KISS UK. Hope we get to hear more soon.

It is so sad hearing we have lost @duncanwallace_ Having the honour to work with him at KISS is something I will never forget . A much loved bright fun super-talented energy of a guy who you could always trust . My thoughts are with his family and friends . Rest in peace Duncs x

Today i left Bauer Media and KISS and a career that I'm.proud of with many achievements along the way . Thank you to the great people and teams I've worked with over my time there and best wishes to you all . Time for a break and new adventures.... Goodbye .X
