@CMS_UHI The story of the recovery of Kinghorn Loch from red mud contamination & restoration of the surrounding land through a long-term community, private & public partnership is a fascinating one. Began long before the term 'rewilding' came into our lexicon. Happy to chat- DM me

How does land reform affect rewilding or nature restoration? And can communities engage with land use decisions? We are looking for examples of interactions between communities and rewilding efforts, whether or not relating to landownership. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Anyone know the running time of this? Asked the question of @ScotlandTBP via DM but no response 🙁 (and need to plan travel which involves a ferry.....)
SCOTLAND: The Big Picture@ScotlandTBP

Three years in the making, #Riverwoods is a feature-length documentary that shines a light on the perilous state of Scotland’s salmon and tells the compelling story of an inextricable relationship between fish and forest. Find a screening near you: scotlandbigpicture.com/riverwoods

My report summarising forest managers' perspectives on soil carbon and forestry practice - in their own words. I like this kind of research - helping stakeholders understand each other.

Just listened to Sarah-Jane Laing from Scottish Land & Estates compare grouse shooting to hill walking & golf on the BBC News at Six. When was the last time you saw a golfer shoot a hen harrier or a short-eared owl??!!

Affects Scotland differently: "Unfortunately, the ability of the Scottish Government to take strategic action in mitigation is hampered by Westminster’s control over capital spending."

@comsdivforestry @WoollyMaggot It's also about financial feasibility - thinning used to be considered unfeasible because you couldn't sell the thinnings. That's changed. So if the costs need to balance the income, that is what would affect the feasibility of manual thinning.

@WoollyMaggot Follow up question - is manual thinning feasible on say a 70 hectare site without access roads? Although access roads are great for amenity obviously, not everyone wants to put them in at the outset.

Silvicultural thinning is awesome. It's got benefits for woodland owners, biodiversity & society giving u options. But this! This is a joker somewhere in NE Scotland with not a fucking clue totally shagging up a farm wood. Who needs to worry about red deer when tossers do this!

@rajygoroc @wildforest_matt @PoliticsScot Not Forestry Commission land, as Matt says private land sold by Duke of Buccleuch. Scottish Forestry is the regulatory body (used to be Forestry Commission Scotland) which should have picked this up but didn't, partly because they are desperately understaffed.

@wildforest_matt @PoliticsScot This was featured on Scots Borders local news last week I think. It concerned forestry commission lands and they admitted that they had permitted this by error. And they agreed it should not have happened.
