As we celebrate the new year, may we give thanks to God for inscribing us in the book of life, and may we reflect upon our accomplishments, offer ourselves forgiveness, and examine the ways in which we can better ourselves as individuals and as part of a greater whole.

May we also pause to cleanse, renew, and enter the new year unburdened by that which holds us back from being our best, most authentic selves. Shabbat shalom, and shanah tovah um’tukah!

As Rosh HaShanah falls on Shabbat this year, we are twice blessed as we pause to keep the Sabbath holy and celebrate the start of a new week and the new year.

22 years ago, America was forever changed by the attacks of 9/11. May the memories of the thousands lost forever be a blessing, and may we keep them alive through acts of righteousness, justice, and peace. As it is written, “Depart from evil, do good, seek peace and pursue it.”

Jewish tradition teaches that the world was created in Tishrei. As we reflect, repent, and ask for forgiveness & renewal during Slichot & the days of awe, we have the opportunity to foster a deeper appreciation for each other and the acts of creation we witness daily. Shavua tov.

This week, we read from the double portion of Nitzavim-Vayeilech, which describes the Israelites standing before God – specifically mentioning the many groups present. Rabbi Cohen teaches that this description reminds us of each person’s intrinsic worthiness. Shabbat Shalom.
