Important context 🚨👇 President Donald Trump said on November 9, 2025 that most Americans could receive a “tariff dividend” of at least 2,000 dollars, funded by revenue from import tariffs. He made the claim on Truth Social and framed it as money returning to citizens while also helping pay down the national debt. This idea has been floated before. In early October he told One America News he was considering payments of 1,000 to 2,000 dollars sourced from tariff receipts. Independent reporting confirms the October trial balloon and the November post but notes that any payout would need legislation. It also notes that parts of the tariff program are under Supreme Court review. It's very important to note that the revenue math is an important context. Net customs duties for fiscal year 2025 were about 195 billion dollars according to Treasury and budget reporting, which is far below the “trillions” cited in the post. Roughly $540 billion would be needed to send $2,000 to every adult American, so there is no confirmed funding mechanism or enacted law at this time.
