It's not the best phrasing for sure. Here's maybe a more clear phrasing. It's like someone openly threatens to kill a person, starts walking toward their house, and then complains that the victim has too much power when the police are called and stops them. The issue isn't the victim's influence it's the threatening actions that prompted the response.

The only reason men want relationships is because we're convinced love exists by women. Which sounds much better than this all being a zero sum game.
