Bessent calls the Strait of Hormuz the "Strait of Vermouth"

@lsferguson Not remotely true. The most recent ACS doesn’t have a single zip code with even 1% of the Evansville population from Haiti.

This is a spectacular piece.

Nothing new in the speech. Good to be reminded that Iran is evil. The appeal to courage rings hollow. Not sure he convinced the Iranians they’ve been obliterated. MAGA nation surely thinks so. The fighting continues . . . pray for peace.

GORSUCH: Do you think Native Americans are birthright citizens under your test? SAUER: Ah, I think ... so. I have to think that through.

The jabberwocky seems confused . . .

We know it’s low elasticity, the question is whether it is median or high disruption. This, FWIW, makes $8 a gallon gasoline an optimistic assessment.

🚨BREAKING: GOP Sen. Lankford just said that the Democrats' demands in the Senate were "absolutely absurd; they asked for things, for instance, like ICE could not be at polling places." The cat is out of the bag; ICE is coming to the polling locations in Nov. This is alarming.

@scottlincicome If you think this clown is monstrous, you should see the folks who represent him in the statehouse and congress.

Pete Hegseth's "Department of War" spent nearly $7 million on lobster tails, more than $15 million on ribeye steaks, and hundreds of thousands on doughnuts...in September. openthebooks.substack.com/p/pentagon-sho…

War is disruptive (even when wholly justified and well executed). Some part of this shocking volatility reflects the fact that the Trump White House appears not to have imagined that a war with Iran would shock oil supply. Graph from @KobeissiLetter
