@sammygurus Tried samsung messages but their lack or RCS in my region made it a deal-braker for me, google messages is actually not bad and I have been using it along with my family for quite some time now , the only gripe is i can't find a way to keep a backup of my old chats

Samsung is officially shutting down Samsung Messages by July 2026, fully shifting Galaxy users to Google Messages for better RCS support and faster updates. Are you ready to make the switch, or will you miss Samsung’s own messaging app? 📱 sammyguru.com/samsung-messag…

@sammygurus Hallelujah! It's an app that RCS features are carrier dependent, doesn't work well with iPhones!

@Wvisioncreation It is for the US BTW, Samsung Messages in the US is carrier dependent, carriers don't want to support RCS going through their servers, they want only SMS/MMS to be used. By law in the US, Messages have to be stored for 30 days on their servers. Google Messages don't.

Sad news… and honestly a very wrong move from Samsung. Killing Samsung Messages instead of improving it and pushing everyone to Google feels like a downgrade, not progress. At this point, it genuinely makes me think about switching to Apple.

Dear @madebygoogle you should really consider letting Samsung put a custome skin on top of Google Message. The blowback forcing user to make the switch is going to be very loud. At least consider making it amoled black instead of the black/gray it currently is. Categories too!

Samsung messages will be discontinued in July 2026 for users on Android 12 (One UI 4) or higher Samsung already shipped new flagships with Google messages as default so this was expected

@Wvisioncreation Carriers don't want to invest in the infrastructure to maintain massive servers that RCS takes up.

@Wvisioncreation I don't appreciate the spam on the community boards. It distracts attention for people that come there for tech help. They will all be gone by tomorrow, it violates TOS.

@Robin621k I don't know whether to thank you for the info or bash you for being impolite, but anyway, the info is good. The Samsung community link was recommended by Samsung US when they replied to my post. I will add your link to the post

To everyone who wants a better Samsung Messages experience, please copy and paste this into the Samsung Members community 👇 We understand the direction of supporting Google Messages, especially to improve Android-to-Android communication through RCS, including better group chats, read receipts, typing indicators, higher-quality media sharing, end-to-end encryption, audio messages, and location sharing. However, could Samsung consider working more closely with Google to create an experience truly optimized for Samsung users? Combining the strengths of Google Messages with Samsung Messages’ One UI design language and unique features would deliver something more complete and consistent. That’s the experience Samsung users deserve. At the same time, we hope you understand our disappointment regarding the removal of Samsung’s own apps. Many of us chose Samsung not for the hardware, but for the complete One UI experience, including its native apps and services. While Google apps do offer additional features, they are available across all Android devices. Samsung’s apps, on the other hand, are uniquely designed to match One UI’s identity and ecosystem. Replacing them instead of improving them feels like a step away from what makes Samsung special as a premium brand. We truly hope Samsung continues to invest in and refine its own apps, as they are an important part of the experience many users value. us.community.samsung.com/t5/Samsung-Com…

@Wvisioncreation @choehau_ara Androids should comply with Google not the other way around since Google is the one providing the android experience to begin with Idk I think the best thing Samsung could do is drop that messages app and start focusing on specializing G Messages for their devices 😲

Google Messages doesn’t fit One UI. Samsung Messages matches the design language, backgrounds, fonts, the whole system feels consistent. That’s the difference: one feels integrated, the other feels imported. Even if Samsung Messages lacks some features, the answer is simple improve it, don’t replace it.

@footy27_ It used to follow One UI AMOLED theme better before. At some point we lost that.. it's weird because it even says phone_samsung in the version so they should skin it better

The solution to this problem is simple: Samsung should work with Google to skin the app to better fit their UI! I do hope this doesn't mean Samsung is giving up on supporting their own apps
