Yaz doesn't belong. One great season. Outstanding LF. But a 162 game avg. of .285-22-90 doesn't make him Top 10 just because he played 23 years. Hannah, McHale, Bourque, Clemens or Rice are all more worthy.

@stevemagness Yes it reverses but at 8th grade /HS level it is still a factor (and that’s what we are talking about here) and in all aspects it is certainly an advantage through elementary school. Right?

@RunCoach341 Very old data. That was true in 2000. Now it's around 8.5% or so. The relative age effect was a thing when we sucked at talent ID and development. Not as much anymore. And in many cases, it reverses at the elite level. See: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC55…

@stevemagness Lots of parents hold them back to start a kindergarten a year later which is a huge advantage all the way through school since they are a year older than many of the kids in the class. Big advantage academically and athletically .

Or let’s let schools who can’t figure out how to win go down a level so they have a better chance at a trophy.

@teleologyman @FromTheSeidline No one should be removed from competition, I think Matt is talking about moving private schools to either their own tournaments, or shifting them up a division. Competitive balance.

Most private schools would be ok with a couple all-private divisions.
Nick@teleologyman

@FromTheSeidline This issue should cause everyone to help build stronger civic and nonprofit sports at the younger ages. That is where the difference is. Removing private schools from competition is a terrible solution. (My kids go to a division I public school).

There’s always juice with a regional. Sweet 16 is some kind of special. That being said, the level of juice at Capital One Arena Friday night is going to be at a one-of-one level. Duke vs. St. John’s. UConn vs. Michigan State. Jon Scheyer. Rick Pitino. Dan Hurley. Tom Izzo.

@Coach_McKinney Question: Do girls teams stall this much on HS courts which are 10 feet shorter (and in some gyms even more) than the MSU court? The bigger court at MSU makes it a lot easier to stall.

I would agree DeWitt could have pressured a little more but to start the 4th we are already playing keep away? What about this clip, would you say South Christian doesn’t try to pressure? If you have good guards you can do it for long periods of time. Down 6 with 3 mins to go they shouldn’t have to resort to fouling so early..shot clock would give them possessions without fouling to add to the deficit..
Shannon Autry@MrsAutry812

@Coach_McKinney I agree that there should be a shot clock but how about instead of Renaissance “stalls” it’s DeWitt refused to pressure the ball 🤷‍♀️. Basketball is a strategy game just like they played a packed in zone all game but guess we aren’t going to talk about that 🙄

@Coach_McKinney The minute and half possession ended as soon as DeWitt decided to defend - playing defense is an option.

For MSU fans looking for an omen / Kentucky’s win in OT was similar to their win over St. Bonaventure in 2000.

Every single team in baseball would keep Connelly Early and Payton Tolle in the minor leagues for a couple weeks if it meant getting another year of service time, especially if they had five other established healthy starters for the rotation. That’s just being smart
