San Bernardino County is strengthening its commitment to public safety and operational excellence through a new five-year partnership between the Land Use Services Code Enforcement Division and Public Works. Formalized through a memorandum of understanding, the collaboration combines education, enforcement and coordinated operations to protect the county’s road system, especially during critical times. ❄️
A primary focus of the partnership is the county’s mountain communities, where winter storms can quickly turn improperly parked vehicles into serious public safety hazards. Vehicles that block snowplows delay emergency response, prevent access for residents and significantly slow snow removal efforts. 🛡️

We are proud to present another episode of the Did You Know video series featuring Second District Supervisor Jesse Armendarez who shares a fun fact about one of our community’s most treasured historic homes. 🏡
The María Merced Williams and John Rains house in Rancho Cucamonga was built in 1860 and had a natural way to stay cool. It was one of the first homes in California to use flowing spring water under the house to lower the temperature inside.
In 1971, San Bernardino County acquired the home with support from local residents who wanted to preserve it. Today, it remains an important part of our local history and an early example of innovative architecture.

We are proud to present another episode of the Did You Know video series featuring First District Supervisor Col. Paul Cook (Ret.) as he shares a fun fact highlighting one of his district’s natural gems. 💎
The Trona Pinnacles are considered one of the most unusual geological wonders in the California Desert. The tufa spires, made of calcium carbonate, rise from the bed of the Searles Dry Lake basin and reach up to 140 feet high. They were formed underwater 10,000 to 100,000 years ago. 💧
A number of Hollywood films have been shot around the Trona Pinnacles, including parts of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Lost in Space and Planet of the Apes. In addition, the music video for Rihanna’s single “Sledgehammer” was filmed at this location. 🎬

Tuesday, Dec. 2, marks the tenth anniversary of the Dec. 2, 2015, terrorist attack in San Bernardino. On that day, 14 people were taken from us, including 13 county employees. Many more were wounded, physically and emotionally. Please join us on social media at 10:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2 for a moment of silence and memorial video paying tribute to the victims of this terrible tragedy.
We also invite you to take a moment to honor the victims, survivors and first responders by visiting the Curtain of Courage Memorial, which is located outdoors on the east side of the County Government Center at 385 N. Arrowhead Ave. in San Bernardino.
For more information about the Curtain of Courage Memorial, please visit december2.sbcounty.gov.
