🚧🚧Both Friday Street and Yoxford roundabouts were opened on Monday 30th March. There was much traffic congestion as drivers cautiously adjusted to the new layout, road markings, and signage—features that will soon become familiar with regular use. There is still much to do; removal of the old road, landscaping and final connections to the two-village bypass, which is expected to be finished in the Summer. ➡️➡️KILN LANE SUBSTATION now has its own National Grid project page: nationalgrid.com/electricity-tr… infrastructure/infrastructure-projects/kiln-lane-substation Originally referred to as the Friston substation, the project was renamed “Kiln Lane” following requests from residents in Friston. Consent for construction was granted in March 2022 by the then Secretary of State Kwasi Kwarteng, as part of ScottishPower Renewables’ Development Consent Order (DCO) for East Anglia ONE North and East Anglia TWO offshore wind farms. More recently, ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) transferred the consented Order Limits to National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). National Grid has now appointed Omexom Taylor Woodrow to design and construct the substation. NGET has written to Town and Parish Councils advising that pre-works will commence this month and construction in June through to 2028. ⚠️⚠️Next week we’ll publish guidance on the 5 proposed changes which are summarised below: 1: Hoverport, Kent. Kent Wildlife Trust opposes this change on ecological grounds. Concerns include failures to comply with the EIA Regulations, the precautionary principle, the mitigation hierarchy and relevant National Policy Statements. 2: Friston (Kiln Lane) substation. Friston Parish Council oppose Sea Link’s change request to enlarge the footprint of the National Grid substation unnecessarily. 3: Heritage feature, Friston. East Suffolk Council explains that further surveys show the archaeological discovery is of regional significance rather than national importance. 4: Benhall railway bridge. Suffolk County Council and several Town and Parish Councils are objecting to the proposed access via Benhall Railway Bridge and are asking for the Northern Route instead – a change many residents welcome. 5: Hedge Maintenance South of B1119. Both East Suffolk and Suffolk County Councils support this change.
