@RigRichardson @DavKee43 @ag_eyre Hi John, here is the last letter I wrote to Minister Scriven. I’d encourage all farmers, fishers, and EP locals to do the same. The gap is so obvious, and we need both the Fed and State gov to recognise the benefits/risks

@leoniemellor @SA_Ambulance Your parents are great examples of community spirit within regional communities, volunteering for positions which are paid within metro area. Both great community members and much admired. #portneill

@rudigermaxpower @KwMacdon An initial business case has been developed. The benefits to many sectors is very evident. We are just trying to get cut through. If you can help do so through your Ag connections, every bit can help.

When is the Gov going to give EP farmers and fisheries some decent radar service like the rest of Australian farmers showers coming through all the time no sign of them on the radar

Premium tourism regions are being short-changed by the Marshall Liberal Government’s “Great State” Tourism Vouchers - they are only half the value of those for the CBD. The vouchers are only worth $50 a night in the Barossa, but $100 in CBD. #saparli More in @BunyipNewspaper

After 20 years of rural reporting, this afternoon is my last in the regional round. From Monday, I start a new role as the reporter for the Messenger West masthead. To all the farmers, stock agents and rural people who have helped me with stories over the years, thanks so much.

@SAHealth Exciting news for rural communities who struggle to attract/retain GPs. Encouraging for those of us who have been pushing for this for years. Now to find a workable short term solution for those communities until these trained doctors come through the ranks.

@iMatMcDonald I don’t disagree. We’ve only had a few months to get a consultation piece together on a subject matter which there hasn’t been any previous council involvement, so each council has been aiming to consult reflective of local diverse Ag perspectives.

@MayorTelfer Would have thought a unified approach across the entire local government areas would have been the go. Won’t make a difference anyway don’t think any areas have a leg to stand on to oppose it.

SA farmers has your local council done any survey or anything on the whole GM debate? If they have did they only survey farmers/land holders or the entire rate paying community??

@iMatMcDonald Can’t answer that one. Each Council has been given the same advice, and obviously are acting on it differently. The biggest challenge is to help the community understand the narrow parameters which the legislation allows councils to work under so as not to build expectations

@MayorTelfer So why isn’t this an across the board way of doing it than? Why are some councils only asking land holders and than others it’s a free for all

@iMatMcDonald The challenge for Councils is that any application to the Minister will only be assessed on whether there are market advantages to staying GM free, so that’s why the key stakeholders are obviously Ag businesses. The perspectives of others, although valid, aren’t applicable.

For context, our council sent a paper questionnaire to rural landholders only. I’m not sure where I sit on this as I’m a big one for open and upfront consultation. Feel any rate payer should be able to have an opinion 🤷‍♂️

It was good to have Premier @marshall_steven on the Eyre Peninsula again last week. The EP has so much upside with agriculture, aquaculture, fishing and tourism as key drivers which can excel even more with strategic State government decision making. Less politics, more progress!

SA growers, make sure you let your local councillor know that you want to grow GM crops. They are getting inundated from the anti GM lobby. It’s not over yet!

@KwMacdon @wilb171 @AsyleM82 As you can tell by the content of the survey, the key target is the EP farming and ag businesses to ascertain about the key aspect of the State jurisdiction on GM which is around a market and economic basis, not environmental or scientific which is covered by Fed regs.
