Watch, as the crust of the lava lake rises in this 2-month timelapse taken from the rim of Halema‘uma‘u. Lava is supplied beneath the solidified crust, lifting the surface in a manner similar to inflating an air mattress. Since Sep 29, 2021, the surface has risen ~120 m (394 ft).
