New locums recently introduced himself as “Dr. Smith” to me and as “Bob Smith” to my male colleague in the same breath. And yes I was wearing my white coat and my very obvious“DOCTOR” name badge 🙄

Attending at a new hospital this week, and I'm keeping a tally of the times I have introduced myself to a colleague as "Susan Wilcox, the new Intensivist," and they have responded, "Hi Susan, I'm Dr. ____." So far, it's 5. But it's only Thursday. And I started on Tuesday.

@BRosolowskiMD Haha I VERY MUCH remember the 1-2 attendings I felt like this around, and now I get to staff next to them. We get it; there’s always gonna be that attending for someone 😂. The funk and need to please is very real, but not necessary on our end!

@Sim_Falvo It’s the worst feeling bc I’m like I promise I’m not an idiot! 😭 then I’m in a funk the rest of the shift and every shift I staff with them afterwards in hopes to make up for the previous shift 😅

In order to have healthy relationships, we have to have open communication. Open communication involves asking questions, listening, and mutual sharing.
Without this, resentment creeps in.

I wanted to share about the single most salient experience I had deciding who I was as a physician from directly observing an attending. Tragically, it involved the death of a pediatric patient; a child about 18 months old.

@jpsitesMD I’m wondering if the key here is “reducing cardiac work,” not next-best step. Granted, I’m adults (and EM). I know milrinone doesn’t increase myocardial oxygen consumption, so that would have been my other guess? 🤷🏻♀️
