Alright. Point taken about requirement tables being finicky. I maintain a staging orbit is useful, and I struggle to find one that doesn't compromise in some capacity. Time to surface is definitely the biggest issue with NRHO

reminder that NRHO is actually a really useful orbit! and it's very useful to have a station there as a staging point!

@milspecshitpost @sbarky38 I have encountered this at a much less consequential level in my own writing!
English

@SpaceArchivist_ @sbarky38 i have no other takes other than to question your requirements at every scale. you'll revisit a task or something months later having realized you shot yourself in the foot because you thought something worked better in your head than it actually does
English

@milspecshitpost @sbarky38 is it a good thing that I've got you in my replies now?
English

@sbarky38 @SpaceArchivist_ all my opps are systems engineers

@SpaceArchivist_ The first column seems to mostly be driven by Orion being horribly overweight, and the communication occultation can be fixed by LunaNet. If the goal is a lunar waystation Low Lunar Orbit is best IMO.
English

@MaxFagin @stonderlor64239 But even long term, you're still going to have lots of cases for a staging orbit, no?
English

@MaxFagin @stonderlor64239 I'd imagine you're not allowed to say much regarding your own vehicles...
English

Some of us have been saying this! Some have been saying NRHO+Gateway is a good idea!

@MaxFagin @stonderlor64239 So again, what orbit do you think that would be?
English

@MaxFagin @stonderlor64239 would love to know what orbit you think is best. I have a guess that it's LLO, but I have only heard bad things from engineers who have had to deal with that orbit
English

@SpaceArchivist_ @stonderlor64239 Then you should favor a lunar orbit that allows for a better balance of the space segment and the lander segment, and more frequent descent/ascent windows to/from the moon. NRHO isn't that.

@rah_66_comanche PPE and HALO both under construction until The Reassignment :(
English

@SpaceArchivist_ We are with an asterisk. A station in NRHO is more like a stretch goal right now.
English

@SpaceArchivist_ The SpaceX HLS is dependent on Starship working, which it clearly will, but "when?". Blue Origin's Mk2 clearly won't be ready. The National Team bid a firstborn son because they wanted money, not to complete the mission. Altair was killed in 2010. What do you do?

Here are the benifits to using the USA on Artemis III
1. Looks cool as fuck
2. It's litterally called the "USA" so nobody is second guessing who launched it
3. It's already like half built lmao

I’ve been weirdly thinking about this a-lot now due to David’s comment but this would be really cool in my opinion. It’s almost like DIRECT program gets revived through SLS.
