IndyStar's crack investigative team documents a death toll at a minority of Indy's bars. The state has the authority to stop it. But the governor and liquor regulators decline to answer questions and mumble platitudes about taking their jobs seriously. indystar.com/in-depth/news/…

Backlash is the tactic of cheats. Costly scientific fraud reported by this writer "resulted in hateful messages, angry videos on social media sites and two lawsuit threats." nytimes.com/interactive/20…

In response to HHC's Supreme Court case, a top Democrat in the Indiana General Assembly suggests it might be time for lawmakers to re-evaluate if the Marion County health agency should be allowed to run nursing homes.

WE SHOULD ALL BE MAD!!! Marion County agency wants SCOTUS to strip protections for millions of vulnerable Americans United States citizens should be MAD that the Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC) is pursuing this lawsuit...it has cost $700,000 far. indystar.com/story/news/202…

Marion County health officials: First they buy up private nursing homes across the state. Then they divert federal nursing dollars to fund a hospital. Then they ask SCOTUS to prevent patients in understaffed homes from suing. Scandalous! indystar.com/story/news/202… via @indystar

Unbelievable. If the laws of this country really do allow FBI agents to tell falsehoods as they do their jobs, as this decision suggests, then the laws must change. But I can't help thinking it's just another case of prosecutorial cowardice. indystar.com/story/news/cri… via @indystar

When are we going to stop being stunned by news of widespread sex abuse. If I learned 2 things from the @usagym scandal it's: (1) sex abuse is more common than we care to admit, and (2) leaders willing to hide it to avoid scandal are even more common. nytimes.com/2022/05/23/us/…

With the government buying up nursing homes in Indiana to siphon off federal funds, and patients suffering in some of the most understaffed homes in the nation, lawsuits like this may be families' only hope of improving care standards. indystar.com/story/news/inv… via @indystar

With its invasion of #Ukraine, #Russia has brought suffering & pain as the number of victims of sexual violence continues to grow. No war is a justification for such crimes. I appeal to Russia’s soldiers & their superiors to put an end to their violence.

Authoritarian systems are low-information systems — so they often drive blind. And even when the truth filters up their leaders find it hard to change course because their hold on power depends on their claims of infallibility. nytimes.com/2022/04/18/opi…

This is how policy is made in the era of inflammatory tweets. Nonprofit targeted for bailing out a few people who later commit murder, while traditional bail bondsmen let out even more. Misperception becomes reality. indystar.com/story/news/cri… via @indystar
