That's right. But having the worst-case scenario be not that bad is super encouraging Next to last, third from last, etc. all pay increasingly more As you're noting, the more participants that get a meaningful % of the entry fee back, the more will enter a subsequent race—they literally have the money to do so We know that winner-takes-all doesn't work. And perfectly flat doesn't work either. So what mix works? I argue that 1%+ to all is optimal. Much of this game revolves around freerolls, so top-placing horses are already getting triple-rewarded: - Wins derby in race to cover next entry fee - Can race in "same" race again, with positive expectation - Gets qualifier points, and likely to do well in the freeroll Losing horses get none of this, and are always at risk of being benched forever, which we (as Track Owners and as Racers) do not want at all

Kind of a bummer that 1% of purse to everyone was removed after only 2 weeks of testing... Aside from rake reduction, it was the most critical part of the Crown and Purse Distribution proposal With 1%+ of purse to everyone, there is an incentive to fill races, because races get less-risky the more participants there are in the race. @authorofthesurf @photofinishgame People aren't entering a race with the expectation to come last. But equally having only 1st and 2nd, sometimes 3rd, making money / breaking even on big fields does not encourage racing big fields, vs if for an 11 horse field down to 5th were breakeven.

We will never know for sure. Many variables were changed at once The Grade Restricted Stakes qualifiers were missing. BM races poor structuring & incentives. Schedule encourages players not to race in many cases unfortunately Certainly encouraged me to fill races. Why would I enter a 4/16 when I can enter a 11/16? CROWN encourages the opposite because it get divided up by the participants
