Rapid Reaction || 3-1 Win (BOS): Games like these are exactly what you want in the midst of a playoff push. Boston is an incredible team with incredible goaltending. To win this game, the Bolts had to withstand Boston’s pressure & patiently wait for their chance to strike, which they did. These are the “playoff” style games that prove whether or not they have what it takes. I’m telling ya, this team is bound for a deep run. I’m encouraged by many things. Here’s a few: 1) Vasilevskiy is so sharp. Even when the entire defense imploded, Vasilevskiy stayed calm & shut down Boston. You need a goaltender like that in the playoffs. Sometimes one big save (or not save) can make or break an entire series. So, Vasy showing his strength in big games down the stretch gives me all the confidence in the world. 2) Charle-Edouard D’Astous & Darren Raddysh are very strong defensively but also very effective offensively. In the playoffs, games can boil down to one or two plays…having guys on the backend who are able to surprise a goalie or feed the rush can fuel a deep postseason run. Their continued success down the stretch is amazing. 3) While the top guys didn’t have their typical offensive explosion, they were aggressive with their forecheck, and they always hustled to get back on plays. Those traits are other things that will be pivotal for playoff hockey. It wasn’t a perfect night. Passes — at times — weren’t crisp & too many dumb plays were attempted, but playoffs won’t be perfect either. The key for me was the team was focused on defending, and they were patient waiting for their chance to strike. Simply put, the Bolts played winning hockey tonight. LOVE TO SEE IT.
