I'm halfway through watching the Trials of Winnie Mandela, and I have to give credit to Swati Mandela-Dlamini for allowing the documentary to show her grandmother, warts and all. I'm finding the documentary very insightful. Although her legacy will forever be tainted with the Mandela Football Club, I have to commend you for going into detail about what transpired during that period. There is no question that the Apartheid police played a pivotal role in turning her into what she became because a human being can only handle so much before cracking. I'm not making excuses for what she did because ultimately God judged her actions. I'm just appreciative that, given the freedom to make a documentary about your grandmother, you chose to tell the full story. The documentary assisted me in seeing her in a different light, neither better nor worse, but just differently. I suspect this was the goal of the documentary. This country needs this more than ever, where we don't necessarily talk about the people who committed evil acts in this country, but rather how they were allowed to commit them and why.
