Your face moves, changes expression, makes sound, and responds to them in real time. Babies are born with a preference for face like patterns, and within days they can tell your face apart from a stranger's. You make a silly face and they are captivated. A $30 rattle comes no where close. Do not waste money on toys the first few months. Just look at your baby and talk to them. That is enough.
