@Jessika4Justice Has the death penalty been an effective deterrent?
English

Do you agree with Louisiana’s new law ?
The new law gives state judges the power to punish sex offenders found guilty of certain sex offenses—including rape, molestation and incest—against children under the age of 13.
The state hopes the threat of surgical castration might act as a deterrent for those who commit sexual offenses against children.
This is not a blanket punishment for all sex offenders, however, and will be up to the discretion of the judge. The bill also states that a medical expert must determine "that the defendant is an appropriate candidate for surgery."
If an offender refuses the surgery, they could be sentenced to an additional five years in prison. Those under the age of 17 who are found guilty of sex crimes are not allowed to receive the punishment

@TrueCrimeSister They say one of the reasons is that tougher punishment will be a deterrent. How’s that working with regards to the death penalty?

@kwinklerdawson I was just listening to the Wicked Words episode with Patrica Cornwell on her Jack the Ripper theory. I’d love to hear you interview @HallieRubenhold about her book The Five as a counterpoint focusing on the victims.
English

@sarapascoe I was listening to you on the You’re Dead to Me history podcast. I think you might enjoy this book about an animal tail tailor (might also give you a break from Peppa Pig)

I have no words.
He beat her unconscious unprovoked because she asked him to stop shouting “f*ggot” at someone.
The state must appeal this. He should jailed.
Beat the living daylights out of a woman in the middle of O’Connell street and you’ll literally get away with it.
Nicola Bardon@NicolaBardon
This is a disgrace. Cathal Crotty, a serving Irish soldier who beat a woman unconscious in a random street attack, and boasted about it afterwards on social media, has walked free from a court after getting a fully suspended sentence.

@stepdoyle @rtenews @NewstalkFM Because there was no coverage where they were moved to. A phone signal is the last connection many of these people have to their loved ones

A residents' group in Dublin’s south inner city has called for people staying in tents on Mount Street to be moved to "more appropriate space of accommodation or interim shelter" rte.ie/news/regional/…
English

@rtenews How long has there been an empty derelict block of flats on sandwich street, just around the corner from the tent city?

@VirgelTibbs @rtenews Currently there aren’t enough buses or enough routes for the people currently using them.
English

@TalesShadows @rtenews It’s not a better PT first kinda problem. Its both. Reducing private car use will, by default improve bus travel efficiency which in turn will encourage more people to use it.

City councillors have held a heated debate in response to a report on the draft Dublin City Transport plan which proposes to restrict private vehicle journeys through the city centre rte.ie/news/dublin/20…
English

@dermotcullen3 @rtenews Wonder how many if those submissions were against the plan?
English

@rtenews I love the way the council thinks that it’s ok to shape our city bases on 3000 submissions that make no logical sense. This is further evidences that our councils are a waste of good oxygen and money.

@thejournal_ie Could they get specialised teachers with professional Irish to teach the subject in English speaking primary schools as well?
English

A yearly allowance for teachers who teach through Irish should be reintroduced, after it was scrapped to save the Government money, educators have said.

@CatrionaGolden Sounds like the premise for a dystopian cyberpunk novel. Are electric shocks given to students deemed not to be paying enough attention?
