@NHLJackManning Yeah I’m with you. The PDO being bad is the biggest issue and is mostly luck but it’s also clear there was a big enough divide with him and the players to be a problem. don’t hate Torts for short term but I hope they go with a young tactically forward thinking coach next year.

3) Cassidy is an exceptional coach who brought a cup to Vegas. That's forever. But he is known to be hard on his players. That reputation has been with him for his full career. The fallout in Boston has been well-reported. That kind of message can only be effective for so long.

With 2 days to reflect on the #VegasBorn coaching change, I have a few thoughts:
1) Hearing the comments of Friedman, the players, and others (I don't have inside info), it seems clear that this change was both needed and not surprising to those involved, even if no one said it.

@DannyWebster21 The smart move would be to hire a successful ncaa coach with a track record of utilizing offensive defenseman well…. But given the relatively traditional front office it’ll probably be one of the same ~40 guys that get every job

If Tortorella pans out, you at least have the coach in line for the next year or two. Much like Bowness and CBJ.
If not, no idea what the options are to steer the ship into the future with this core already in place.

This is one of the most epic panic moves in the history of the NHL.
Either it works, and Bill Foley looks like a genius for continuing to prioritize winning over absolutely everything else or the front office should be the next ones out the door as soon as this summer because they've completely lost the plot.

3 are against teams in the bottom 4.
2 are against the Kraken, who could conceivably catch them.
All the ingredients are there to ride high right into the playoffs.
But they have to do it.
