@capitalweather its easier to remove a crust of sleet and ice from the top of the snow than it is to get it off the sidewalk.

Repeating: NOW is a good time to shovel if you've switched from snow to sleet. 1-3" of sleet (which is multiple times heavier than snow) on top of this snow will make it MUCH harder to clear later.

@capitalweather but won't the sleet just turn into a thick sheet of ice on the concrete if there is no layer of snow underneath to stop that, making it really hard to chip up ice?
