The @DemSocialists just rebooted its platform. The group's governing committee adopted it, and they're explicit that elected officials should start aligning with its proclamations. Here's what it says: Abolish the U.S. Senate. Abolish the Electoral College. Replace the President and the Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary "subordinate to Congress." Draft a new constitution. Abolish police and prisons. Defund the Department of War, close overseas bases, and end all economic sanctions, including those on Iran, Cuba, and Russia. Universal amnesty for illegal immigrants, public ownership of the largest corporations, legalize polygamy. Barack and Michelle Obama could have built this center anywhere in the world, but they chose Jackson Park, the South Side of Chicago - the streets where Barack once knocked on doors as a young organizer. I love that that’s where he wanted it to be; The place where his story started. As this country’s first Black President and First Lady, they never let that be the end of their legacy. They spent every day since opening doors for everyone, regardless of political party, coming up behind them, and Cookie and I have been fortunate to see that commitment up close. This center isn’t just a monument to what Obama has done. It’s a library, a museum, and a place where the next generation will come to understand not just what he did - but what’s possible for them. Barack, this is so well-deserved. Cookie and I can’t wait to bring the family to visit it in person!

Generations of Americans refused to accept that freedom should belong to some and not others. They understood that freedom is something to cherish, and that each generation must continue the fight for justice and equality.
