(Having done a February rotation on Phoenix, that latter benefit can't be understated. The venue is also pretty close to some great food and drink spots. AZ Wilderness DTPHX and Killer Whale are worth a trip...)

Highly recommend considering the annual Hematopathology tutorial led by our chairman, Dr. Arber. Trainees get a discounted rate on registration. Also, it's a good chance to escape frigid north in January for warmer climes...

@AlbertSyMD PathPrimer, by far. It covers the entirety of material in Leftkowitch and Spitalnik (except for muscle and nerve biopsies), with some additional topics. It's hard, but will prepare you well.

@iplaywithorgans Actual last: my brother was a junior pilot for United when the pandemic hit. Rather than cut junior staff, the union negotiated to keep all on at reduced rates, allowing him to keep his health insurance, at cost to senior members. They definitely earned my respect.

@iplaywithorgans Last, RE: unions broadly. The member negatives I am aware of are union dues (tend to offset themselves with higher wages) and variable local politics. Union leadership is human and can be fallible. But of my friends across many unionized industries, all enjoy and cherish them.

We had the pleasure of hosting a delegation of our Ukrainian hematology & transfusion counterparts today. It was a great chance to learn about each other's practices and to review transfusion management systems as they are developing a national electronic transfusion registry.
