After seeing this post, I contacted Fr. Murr directly to ask if he is alright and he, in turn, asked me to clarify a couple of things: • He did indeed have a heart attack, but it was back in June. He was hospitalized at that time in Seville. • He said, “At 75, I am experiencing a slow recovery. I hope to be fine and thank everyone for the prayers, but the ‘crisis’ was 7 weeks ago, not yesterday. I am just slow to heal and am not ‘bouncing back’ as I hoped to.” Please continue to pray for a smooth and speedy recovery.

Today my wife Joy and I have been married 23 years. I was 23 years old. She was 22. I’m now 46 so that’s half my life ago. We met on a blind date in our senior year of college. Back then, a blind date was truly blind. There was no Facebook or way to look people up. She was very pretty and fun. We went to dinner and a Christmas concert. We discussed theology on that first date and that’s why I liked her. Within the first month or so we discussed marriage and I met her parents and I wrote a note to her dad about my intentions. We were married 18 months later. We saved ourselves for marriage. Our wedding day was truly our first time. Although we didn’t have much money, our first child was born a year later. His birth was an important day in my life. I became a man in my outlook. We always hoped to have at least 8 kids and God gave them to us. At one point we had 3 kids under 3 and later 5 teenagers at one time. Now things are more manageable. Oldest is about to be 22. Youngest is 8. 23 years married 8 beautiful children Successes and failures Laughter and crying Big successes mixed with setbacks Growing family Births, Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, Pilgrimages, Sports, Graduations, Parties Currently we have 3 adult children, 3 teens and two “littles”. Our life is rich and joyful. Marriage only works if you enshrine Christ as the center of wedlock and family. To the young people reading this. Don’t be afraid of marriage. It’s hard. It’s a cross. But it’s also joyful, happy and fulfilling. It is the good life. You have to want it. Find someone who is happy and in love with Christ. Who shares your Catholic Faith. Catholicism says matrimony is a SACRAMENT and both of you need to know and believe this. Sacraments come with grace and you need to receive and sustain that grace from Christ over decades. You also need to reject contraception and be 100% open to having many children. Be fruitful and multiply. Contraception kills marriages. It’s selfish and derails the primary purpose of marriage, which is children. You get married and stay married for your “one-flesh” children. Society has rejected the sacramental and procreative essence of matrimony. We need to restore it. Otherwise society will degrade, along with our birth rate. Divorce is up because people rejected “Catholic matrimony”. Take vows in church “till death do us part” in the sacramental way. Do it the for Christ. Matrimony done rightly is a beautiful witness to Christ and His Bride the Church. This is the profound mystery of marriage. Union begetting new life. Happy 23rd Anniversary Joy!
