This is actually the universal mark of the non-Westerner.

@wmcareteam Poisoning (contaminated compressed air, incorrectly maintained rebreathers, contaminated water), flora/fauna injuries (bites, scrapes, stings etc.), exacerbation of any existing medical condition (undiagnosed on medical or developed since).

@wmcareteam Drowning, nitrogen narcosis (reverts on ascension, if you make it that far), pulmonary barotrauma (pneumothorax/surgical emphysema), gas emboli (decompression sickness), any injury which could be caused by slippery surfaces, working with machinery or compressed gasses.

@wmcareteam It’s Stoney Cove, Leicestershire. I live in Stoney Stanton, about a mile away. My first job was here when I was 15, and my first experiences of emergency medicine, though that was drowning/decompression injuries. We had a hyperbaric chamber then too.

Deep diving in the Uk doesn’t just happen in the sea / coastal areas, there are also inland deep dive sites where incidents can happen. Anyone recognise this place ? LY

We had one of these (empty tube not HbA1c) arrive in blood bank. TPs were dispatched to go find the “bleeder” to discover them pre labelling the tube at the desk… again. Pre labelling makes you look like a plonker when you send an empty tube to the lab but it can be deadly…

@TeamCaptainJohn I read in the notes of a patient how the clinical team had consulted one of our haematologists, they had documented his exact response that the proposed dose of plasma was “homeopathic”.

In transfusion medicine we don’t say “I love you” we say “a single unit of plasma in an insufficient dose to correct a clinically significant coagulopathy in a meaningful way” and I think that’s beautiful #Blooducation
