Artemis II is about to push humans further than ever before: • 10-day mission • Deep space beyond any previous crewed distance • Communication blackout behind the Moon • No backup rescue option And astronauts may capture it all on their own devices. #Artemis #SpaceTravel #SpaceNews

Why is this mission bigger than it sounds? ScienceAlert stories are written, fact-checked, and edited by humans, never generated by AI. An exciting new era of deep-space exploration is opening up. #Space

What is the farthest humans have ever been from Earth? Artemis II just set that record for a crewed mission. The occasion was marked by a number of poignant moments The mission’s milestone was marked by several poignant moments as the astronauts reached the farthest point from Earth ever achieved by people. #Artemis

Voyager is still running on 1977 computers in interstellar space. Those retro systems are still powering a spacecraft about 15 billion miles from Earth. #Space #EarthObservation

The Moon is still mostly grey — that's real. Artemis II astronauts are seeing subtle browns, greens & tones up close due to mineral differences (iron, titanium etc.). Some released images get light processing to highlight those real variations, but it's not vivid rainbow colors. Human eyes + modern cameras just pick up more nuance than Apollo-era shots or Earth views. Cool science, not a color overhaul! 🌕 #ArtemisII

@MikeBales Fun fact: This is not a real image of the moon, this is fact an image of a tortilla wrap.

Was the Sahara always a dry, empty desert? Petroglyphs on sandstone in a national park in Chad show wildlife once lived there before Africa’s water largely receded, and some scientists think the desert may be shifting back. #Science

China’s robotic “octopus arm” satellite just cleared a key refueling test in orbit. The demonstration is the latest step toward China significantly expanding the longevity of its spacecraft The experimental Hukeda-2 and its highly flexible arm passed the demonstration in low Earth orbit, a step toward longer-lived spacecraft. #Space #EarthObservation

Four astronauts. One toilet. That's the Artemis II plan. NASA's crewed mission around the Moon will rely on a single space toilet, and the agency already had to work through issues with it before flight. #Artemis

Quick fact-check on those colorful Artemis II Moon pics: The surface is predominantly grey regolith & rock, just like Apollo samples showed. Crew (Wiseman, Glover, Koch, Hansen) describe subtle browns, greens & warmer tones in places like Orientale basin & Aristarchus — thanks to human eye sensitivity spotting faint mineral clues that satellites often miss. NASA images may have minor contrast/saturation boosts for science comms, but the Moon isn't suddenly technicolor. It's the same grey world, seen with fresh eyes after 50+ years. Exciting stuff! 🚀"
