Giving the same type of generic cartoony expression to everything is not a good thing imo.
Especially, for something like StarFox who was inspired by puppet dramas like Thunderbirds and has continued throughout the series. Removing identity is not an upgrade.

One small detail I really appreciate about Fox's design in the Mario Galaxy movie is how they slightly adjusted the shape of his eyes and eyebrows to allow for more expression compared to having them be in an angry position all the time.
