Today I saw a video of thousands of people in Nasarawa State abandoning their homes and trekking for kilometres just to find safety. Sadly this is where we are now. Communities are emptying. Families are running with nothing. People are leaving behind everything they have worked for, just to stay alive. Every single day, there are reports of attacks, killings, kidnappings… and slowly, it is starting to feel normal. The most frightening part is not just the violence, but how we are all beginning to adjust to it. Situations like this should concern all of us. Because beyond the immediate tragedy, it raises bigger questions: Are we responding with the urgency this demands ? Are we asking enough from those entrusted with protecting lives ? Are we holding the right people accountable ? Where is the response that matches the scale of this crisis ? It should never be normal for thousands of citizens to flee their homes on foot in their own country. It should never be normal for people to choose between staying and dying, or running and losing everything. Nigeria is bleeding slowly, painfully and too many of us are watching it happen in silence. How many more people have to die, get kidnapped or displaced before this becomes urgent enough ?
