@FPLfrasier That is not what we need at all. With Yoro and Heaven we should get a world class centreback or not at all.

I'm not sure the last 5 months could have gone any better for Manchester United.

There are big concerns from people on here I respect in regards to Carrick, I’ll give me two pence on them;
—Speed of play + possession concerns I think are massively improved with quality, Carrick’s Boro side were a very dominant possession team so long-term those ideas would become very apparent. But right now, there’s a need to finish as strong as we can & changes to a 5 last night at 2-0 and in other games have clearly hit that home. This is also a manager who had ‘no plan B’ in the Championship but had shown pretty good adaptiveness.
—Out of Possession, now for me THIS is where my main concerns lie. We press with a +1 in the backline, it’s more zonal, it usually leaves one CB free (the weaker one) to try and curve the ball and trap it to one side. However, good quality teams have players to play around our forwards and directly into midfield from the FB, the Fulham game. Now this is something I noted heavily at Boro, it was a bit more passive. At United right now, I think it’s purely because it suits the players, guards the centre & masks flaws in 1v1s. It also allows us to reserve energy off the ball to hit big spaces on the break like for Sesko’s goal & many more.
—Summer transition is one where I think the football overall only gets better with time in the summer, added quality and rhythm. No surprises our dips in performances come after longer periods between matches, this squad is pretty robust they need time, rhythm & consistent game time; look at Kobbie’s sharpness recently now. I also think Carrick barely has any options off the bench to manage games hence the Sesko bench situation.
In an ideal world United would sign;
—Aggressive flying LB or *use Dorgu* who can get more energy provide the LW support & phase Shaw out
[Malik Diouf + Balde]
—Ball-playing CM who accelerates play, probably someone who still has the physical/technical blend though, a runner who could work with Kobbie but has a different approach to their possession, a bit more power in the passing. A punch passer.
[Elliot Anderson, Lamine Camara + Bouabbi]
—Ball-winning CM (Case replacement) who has rangy tackling, good engine, box to box, defensive transition guy, can jump in the press, set the tone, + if needed attack the box from deep.
[Tchouameni, Baleba, Tonali, Sangare]
—Additional CM who can just bring depth in quality, a smart niche buy, an all-rounder if possible, can land on their feet in any situation but still would edge it more to a ball-winner. Could also be a project CM.
[Pape Gueye, Djaoui Cissé, James Garner]
—Traditional LW who can hold width, come inside when needed, combine, create but is cleaner technically than a Cunha/Mbeumo to hold the ball and sync attacks
[Barcola, Ndiaye, Rashford back???]
—A second CF to balance minutes out with Sesko, bring quality in depth and be more of a ready-made player now. Again be smart with funds here.
[Welbeck??]
—I wouldn’t want to overcook on the CBs right now, personally. MDL, Maguire, Licha, Heaven, Yoro, Shaw?, I think this would be one of my last positions to address. Heaven is developing nice & Yoro needs to step up. If it’s a LCB though I’d look at…
