For Your GRAMMY® Consideration Best Instrumental Composition Vince & The Valholla Empire New Shoes Producers: Vince Valholla & Daniel "StayLookingOut" Russo When I started my collective, Vince & The Valholla Empire, I simply wanted to vessel for me to release music I loved without any barriers. Our single, ‘New Shoes’ is an instrumental that I envisioned that would move people, and it did. The feedback has been crazy so I’m excited that this song is up for consideration in the Best Instrumental Composition category.

I told someone that we have over 12 remixes for a single we’re currently pushing and they were shocked but this isn’t new. I was in a vinyl shop and I saw this Seal single. One vinyl, with 10 versions of a single.

If you’re an artist going D2C, eventually open a window to have the music on streaming. So this is for anyone who has their music exclusively physical, on a website or app, and not on streaming services. Why? Well, before I explain, I’m saying this because when we started our label we didn’t have any other choice but go direct to consumer because you needed a lot of money on hand to distribute music to stores. Our label manufactured CDs in-house. So why should you eventually have your music on streaming if you choose to have it exclusively on your own platform? Discoverability. I want you to imagine that you have your song or project only available on one platform like your website and a DJ happens to play your song some where public. Someone hears it and loves the song then they go to Shazam, and they don’t find the song. If the listener gives up looking, you just lost an opportunity to connect with a fan. Discoverability is more segmented than ever, so don’t make it harder for new fans to find you. So, again, it’s nothing wrong with doing things exclusively, direct to your fans, but always plan to eventually have it on streaming services so people can discover you and your music.

Our rotating collective, Vince & The Valholla Empire collaborated with singer Natalie Kalei based in Las Vegas on a Jersey club remix to her single “Stick Around”. It ended up being a favorite with our listeners. Tomorrow, Natalie has a new single dropping that I’m a part of. It’s a Pop/Dance record and excited for people to hear it.
