At the same time, and in view of other bills related to child custody that have been passed by the #California legislators, the best interest of the child must be evaluated and determined comprehensively. Allowing any single factor or issue to tip the scale in favor of one parent will open the door to manipulation and abuse. We have already seen this with #parentalalienation accusations, so we must learn the lesson!

I join legislators, victims, their representatives and civil society organizations in urging the #California State Assembly and California Senate to do the right thing and adopt #piqui’slaw to contribute to keeping children and safe and free from violence within the context of custody battles, as well as no longer ignoring the history of #domesticviolence by a perpetrator requesting custody. In doing so, California will hopefully set an example for other States in the US and beyond.

This is very important legislation to pass. Thank you to the UNSR for their support of children in California.
