Today’s acquisition for my Goodwin Presidential Library is “The Story-Life of Lincoln” published in 1908. Written and compiled by Wayne Whipple, it was printed in commemoration of Abraham Lincoln’s 1909 birth centennial. As I’ve begun to enjoy it, I am fascinated not only by scores and scores of stories I did not know already but reading them from persons with first-hand, personal accounts of our 16th President. The myriad photos and illustrations are also intriguing. Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln constitute a significant percentage of my private, curated collection of 880+ autobiographies, biographies, histories, and reference materials about each American President and the Presidency as an institution. #POTUS #Lincoln #abrahamlincoln #library #history #Presidents #books #AmericanHistory

On April 10th I had the pleasure and high privilege to join my longtime friend, John Hood, as a co-panelist presenting on the subject of “the conservative and liberal mindset.” This is our third time over the last 2 years speaking on this topic for the North Carolina Institute of Public Leadership (IOPL), formerly the Institute of Political Leadership. John and I particularly appreciated the subsequent Q&A session with attendees. Making this program personally extra-special for me was not only the presence and participation of my own son and high school senior, Jackson, but also two (2) other Richmond County natives who are present Fellows of the program—including the amazing, super smart, and dedicated longtime friend (and, like me, Hamlet native and lover of all things BBQ), Cedric Carr. … That meant Richmond County — long a dominant force in high school football — for one brief, shining moment over-represented at a state discussion on political philosophy! @NC_IOPL #ncpol @JohnHoodNC @RO_LocalNews @RCDailyJournal

Food for thought. The Bible spells out what blasphemy is and instructs believers of Jesus Christ that no one can serve two masters. Christians must choose. If you’re a Christian, then what is your choice? Thanks! I find it fascinating how Harding was so popular in his day but now a century later folks hardly know him, if at all. He certainly had a great deal of drama during his administration (Teapot Dome et al.), not even to mention his romantic affair(s) and child out of wedlock.
