The notion that Carmelo was winning vs Lebron was slight. This is magnitudes larger as seen in chart above or see metrics below. The all-time top 12 rookie WS/48 (NBA only, high-minute qualifiers) : Wilt Chamberlain (1959-60) — .245 David Robinson (1989-90) — .241 Walt Bellamy (1961-62) — .233 Michael Jordan (1984-85) — .213 Oscar Robertson (1960-61) — .210 Tim Duncan (1997-98) — .192 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1969-70) — .187 Larry Bird (1979-80) — .182 Magic Johnson (1979-80) — .180 Chris Paul (2005-06) — .178 Ben Simmons (2017-18) — .162 Kon Knueppel (2025-26) — .158

The narrative that Kon Knueppel "impacts winning" as a prop for the ROTY race should not be accepted without contention. The Hornets are a powerhouse team with LaMelo and Brandon Miller on the floor. Take a look at Knueppel's 6 worst performances and the point differential between the teams: Kon - 8 points / 33.3 FG% CHA vs BKN - 31pt win Kon - 9 points / 33.3 FG% MEM vs CHA - 23pt win Kon - 10 points / 36.4 FG% POR vs CHA - 16pt win Kon - 11 points / 28.6 FG% CHA vs MIN - 14pt win Kon - 13 pts / 42.9 FG% DAL vs CHA 27pt win Kon - 14 pts / 41.7 FG% SAC vs CHA 44pt win I am by no means attacking Kon Knueppel as a player, or criticizing these performances. However, they are still blowing teams out when he does not perform. He certainly adds value to games when he is hot, but his production is not essential to the winning of the team. I do know, if/when Cooper Flagg has an off-night, there is 0 chance that the Mavs are winning. We've only won 25 games, but without Cooper, I'm not sure if we could have won 10. Will Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel be named co-winners for the Rookie of the Year award? 🤔 There have been three instances in NBA history where two players shared ROTY honors: 1999-2000: 🔹 Elton Brand (Bulls) 🔸 Steve Francis (Rockets) 1994-1995: 🔹 Grant Hill (Pistons) 🔸 Jason Kidd (Mavs) 1970-1971: 🔹 Dave Cowens (Celtics) 🔸 Geoff Petrie (Trail Blazers)

@Mavs_FFL Kon's team is setting history with the most +/- in 2 year improvement Kon is leading his team with a 8.1 win share. Carmelo only had a 6.1, Lebron only a 5.1, and Coop at 3.7. WS/48 of 0.158 is 12th best all time for a rookie. That will put him above Tatum in all time top 100.

It’s been entertaining discussing the rookie of the year debate with Maverick fans the last few days — even if they think I’m an analytics nerd who doesn’t know what I’m talking about. I don't take anything to heart on Twitter. Can’t remember the last time a ROY debate has been this close or spirited. It’s apparent the Hornets need more fans, they stand no chance against #Mffl  on this app 😂. I want to ask the Mavericks fans who see this as a serious question. If Flagg led Kon in every single advanced metric, would you say they shouldn’t be used in debates?

@ryantristanb @KalshiHoops What is rather impressive is that only two players have done this in the last 33 years. Have to go back to the Grandmama days when Charlotte also did it in 1992.
