Our Adolescent Book Group Program is underway at Monarch Academy! We're excited to see a new wave of students and provide a space for them to read diverse and relevant texts that teen scholars can see themselves in and connect with the world around them!

Words on Wheels is back in action, bringing totes full of Spring Read Aloud Program Giveaway books and learning kits for the next wave in our program cycle! We are so grateful to our #WordsOnWheels volunteers and excited for all we will read and learn with our San Diego students!

This week, we’re reading "How to Be a Lion" by Ed Vere in our Read Aloud Program. This inspiring picture book talks about the unexpected friendship between a lion and a duck, and the importance of staying true to yourself and standing up for what you believe in!

Thanks to the incredible dedication of our Family Literacy Program volunteers, 1,950 books and learning kits have been delivered to 46 partner sites across San Diego County! Our volunteers stepped in to fully equip families as this Family Literacy Program workshop series begins.

Did you know that, out of all of our Preschool – 3rd grade teachers participating in our Read Aloud Program, 80% of them observed students reading more frequently after completing the program! Learn more at: buff.ly/wPMqcHV

Our #ChampionsForYouth really showed up in the most incredible way this year!💛 📚 Together, we raised $72,251.40, and with $70,000 in matched funds, that brings our total raised to $142,251.40—all to fuel our mission of connecting young learners to the joy and power of reading!

This week’s #TitleTuesday feature is one we're reading in our Adolescent Book Group this year: "Punching the Air" by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam. This book is about a wrongfully imprisoned Black teen artist who uses poetry and art to fight for justice and preserve his identity!
