@GregLehman If my math is correct, the absolute risk in the valgus group is ~7.8 %, about .5% greater than baseline. Ahhh, the power of large sample sizes.

Stats people. It looks like about 7% rerupture and those with high "valgus" have an OR=1.07 What does this mean in terms of absolute risk if you're just 7% more likely to rerupture with high "valgus".

New in #JISAKOS Dynamic knee valgus predicts ACL graft re-rupture, particularly in men. Valgus angles >18–20° during RTS testing significantly increased failure risk—independent of graft type. 🔗 jisakos.com/article/S2059-…

The ACSM incorrectly rejected some abstracts for their annual meeting and have rectified the issue with me. I can’t help but feel for the people who encountered a similar issue and won’t be able to present the research they deserve to present. I suspect the issue is widespread.

@JASPStats , I believe your repeated measures ANOVA post hoc results with bonferroni corrections are incorrect in the latest JASP version. They were correct on my previous version. I have confirmed this suspicion with R results as well.

This semester, my Sports Science students are ditching IMUs and using OpenCap. Students are a lot more invested when they know they can actually use the same free tech in practice when they graduate. #opencap

@Alan_Couzens Does the typical person not have the capacity to use fat as a fuel? What would happen to these people once they deplete their glycogen stores? Do they die?

If you want to lose body fat, you must have the ability to use fat as a fuel🔥 The lack of attention given to this simple fact is mind-boggling. #MetabolicFitness

Caffeine intake is used as an input to a machine learning model that includes other features that may have an effect upon performance - obviously training features (volume, intensity etc) among others. The error of the model on a holdback set of test data is used with and without caffeine as an input. If caffeine is a useful predictive feature (for this athlete) it will improve the error of the model. If it is not, it will not. Using this method (non-linear, non-parametric, individualized modeling), beyond ascertaining if caffeine intake is a useful feature, it also facilitates predictions of to what extent caffeine will improve performance *for that athlete*. IMO, more research should be focused on the implementation of machine learning methods, especially in sports as they facilitate personalized prescription.

N=1 is the ultimate truth. Large population level studies provide a decent starting point of what 'should' work assuming you're an average representation of the population. This is useful if you have no previous data on what works *for you* If you do have previous data on what works *for you*, you would have to be some kind of idiot to ignore that & instead go with what works the best for the average population member. E.g. assume you get a major disease that you've never had before. Science says on a population level, treatment A is superior to treatment B so you start with treatment A, but you don't respond as the average subject in the study did. Do you stick with treatment A, & go down with the ship, because "science says" it is the superior choice? Of course not, you try option B! Your *individual* response to an intervention should always be placed above the average population member's response to an intervention. Too few academics understand this.

Training heavy the day before doesn't leave you still primed to be explosive. Training explosive the day before DOES leave you to still be primed and ready to be explosive. What to do for game day or GD-1 lifts? I know my choice. journals.lww.com/nsca-jscr/Full…

This Kaggle analysis suggests injuries aren't up, when crudely quantified by pure quantity of injuries. Disclaimer: I didn't take a deep dive into the code accuracy. #NBA kaggle.com/code/erikcabez…

How are so many people suggesting that NBA injuries are up across seasons without discussing actual injury data? Is there quality data somewhere that shows injuries have indeed been trending up?

@Coach_Alejo So what do you think NBA players had longer careers in the early 2000s compared to the 80s and 90s?

@XphysNerd I disagree. At the lease we've seen no significant decrease in injury rate. Not one that is associated with high tech, load management and increased personnel and focus in the performance units. Again, can't single out sports med while they collaboratively work.

Is it possible that you don't need to be a sport scientist, or deeply understand the science of sport to conclude on either? Common sense has played a bigger role in my philosophy than ever before! For sure- the NBA isn't the only place- Something's not working!
