Free advice for football coaches: 1. If you draw up an offensive play, always draw up a defense. 2. Calling plays is hard. It's easy to question after the fact. Everyoneโs a great play caller on the ride home. 3. If your players are confused, itโs probably your fault and it's too complex. Donโt assume they get it. 4. Stop obsessing over titles. Be ready when your shot comes. 5. You probably aren't as good at โwinging itโ as you think. Preparation is key. 6. If you only talk to kids when they mess up, donโt expect them to listen when it matters. 7. Everyone wants to call playsโฆ until itโs 3rd & 8 with the game on the line. 8. If your system only works with great players, itโs not a great system. 9. If practice isnโt organized, donโt expect Friday night to magically be. 10. Stop blaming โkids these days.โ Part of coaching is just adjusting. 11. Halftime adjustments sound greatโฆ but we would tell them before halftime if we knew what to say. 12. Film doesnโt lie, but coaches sometimes do about what they see on it. Just my opinion, we donโt have to agree.

Serious question, what percentage of teachers & especially male teachers would never have entered the teaching profession if it wasnโt for coaching?!? Even my guidance counselor was insistent that I pursue an engineering or computer science degree.

I texted a coach this morning and asked how the new job was going after about a month. His response was one Iโve heard many timesโฆ and lived myself: โNot bad. Some kids pushing back culture wise. Always worried about staff and numbers.โ If you go into a program and start making the changes that need to be made, be ready for pushback. Thatโs normal. My advice to him: Water the good grass. Donโt let the weeds hold you hostage. Too many coaches start looking the other way because they want to keep players and coaches happy. They convince themselves they can slowly change the culture. It doesnโt work that way. Culture doesnโt drift in the right direction. It moves toward the standard you enforce. Stay strong to your principles. The right grass will grow. ๐ฑ๐ @fastnwide

Consistency, Consistency and Consistency. 51 off a half inch, best is 56. Working towards 60 as a freshman! @DanOrnerKicking @kt_recruiting @CoachKyleCooper @CoachGolesh @CoachScheier @Coach_Grisham @COACHMAC515 #kicker #recruiting #specialist
