Yes, an independent Alberta would need to replace several Canadian services, including postal, police, currency, and passports. That is true. But the important point is this: Alberta would also control those services directly, so they would be built to serve Alberta’s needs, Alberta’s values, and Alberta’s security. On a day-to-day level, life would still feel familiar. Mail would still be delivered. Police would still patrol. Passports would still be issued. Currency would still circulate. The difference is that Ottawa would no longer be deciding what is best for Alberta while using Alberta’s own money to do it. Independence is not about losing services. It is about bringing them home.

Today’s court case was hard to digest. There were so many arguments being made that just did not make sense. Take this one raised in the article below about “tyranny of the minority”. But explain to me how one minority group argues “tyranny of the minority” against another minority? Does that not just cancel itself out? Or what about the argument that those proposing separation should form a provincial political party instead of proceeding by petition? Well, couldn’t we say the exact same thing about those who oppose independence? Or the one that gets people excited is foreign interference, but ask yourselves where is CSIS and the RCMP in all of this? Monitoring and investigation such accusations is literally their role! If it’s an issue we would have heard from them, but we did not. All we got was speciation and conjecture, hardly appropriate for a court proceeding. And then we hear that racism and disinformation is an issue. Are we supposed to pretend we live in a world where those issues don’t exist? Shutting down a petition process does not solve them, it just avoids the conversation rather than dealing with it. These are just a few examples that do not make sense. And if these kinds of arguments don’t make it clear that this is a political process, I don’t know what does. And isn’t this exactly what democracy looks like? It is not always clean. It is often uncomfortable. But that is precisely what makes it work. So seriously, what are we doing here? I guess we will see what tomorrow brings.

I was terrified to go into the grocery store maskless for the first time during covid. I didn't know what would happen to me but when I walked through the doors of the Superstore there was another girl straight ahead without a mask. She looked up and saw me and we just took a moment and exchanged huge smiles. I will never forget that moment.

‼️ History Lesson In 2008, police raided a property owned by Guillaume Champagne and found a Hells Angels meth lab. 34,000 pills. A pill press. $50K in cash. He was charged with conspiracy alongside a Hells Angels member. Then it all disappeared. “Negotiated acquittal.” No trial. Reasons sealed. His brother? François-Philippe Champagne. The current Finance Minister. He was getting ready to enter politics at the time. The media never asks about this. Ever. journaldemontreal.com/2017/03/13/le-…

Around the world, countries are taking a second look at how we approach gender transition for minors. We’re now seeing cases where young adults who transitioned as children are asking a difficult question: “Who was responsible for protecting me when I couldn’t fully understand the consequences?” These lawsuits matter. They raise serious questions about consent, responsibility, and whether the systems in place are adequately protecting children from irreversible decisions. In Canada, our approach appears increasingly out of sync with these global shifts toward greater caution and review. nationalpost.com/opinion/canada…

This week, we will be in Court on a challenge brought by several First Nations in relation to the independence petition. Our position is straightforward: the matter is non-justiciable, premature, and fundamentally political, not legal. It is not a matter for the Court and should be dismissed outright. It is unfortunate that emotion and misinformation have become part of this campaign, which has caused division and confusion. At this stage of the process, a private Albertan has collected signatures from fellow citizens and has already communicated that outcome to elected representatives. Did anything life-shattering or legally consequential occur? No. So we already know the answer to this week of court challenges: nothing changes legally, because nothing has happened beyond citizens communicating with each other and with their elected officials. This is civic engagement. It is a core feature of a functioning democracy and it should be encouraged, not discouraged and obstructed. Importantly, no one requires permission to speak with fellow citizens or to convey collective views to elected officials. Mr. Mitch Sylvestre chose to use the framework set out in the Citizen Initiative Act, legislation designed to structure and facilitate precisely this kind of participation, with oversight by Elections Alberta. Because that statutory framework exists, it opens the door to legal challenges directed at both the legislation and the actions of Elections Alberta. That is how we arrived here. But at its core, this case reflects something much broader: organized interests seeking to challenge administrative decisions that are intended to enable citizen participation, not restrict it. And when lawful civic engagement is met with attempts to control or suppress it, the result should not be surprising. The more participation is constrained, the more people will push back and seek other avenues to be heard. So we must ask ourselves: Do we want a system that encourages citizens to engage or one that discourages them from participating? And if participation is discouraged, who actually benefits?
