After 9 arrived at a fascinating moment in South Africa. On paper, the country had some of the world's most progressive protections for LGBTQIA+ people. But as we know, what is written in the Constitution and what happens around the dinner table are often two very different things.
The show understood that gap. Its characters weren't just struggling with their sexuality; they were navigating family expectations, cultural pressures, career ambitions and the performance of being the "right kind" of man.

Magubane paid a heavy price for his resistance photojournalism. He was arrested multiple times, had his nose broken by police for refusing to hand over his film, and in 1974, was put into solitary confinement for 586 days. When he was released, the regime banned him from taking photos for five years. Undeterred, he broke his banning orders to cover the historic 1976 Soweto Uprising.

i totally agree as long as the DNA of all male fathers and children should be kept in a database to be routinely cross checked against DNA obtained from rape kits. full transparency for all 🥳
