Everyone seems furious about this cover but as a native New Yorker, let me just say that this specific type of transplant is load-bearing for this city. This is what Carrie Bradshaw was. They move here to take jobs in publicity or marketing, drink too much on the weekends, post overly romanticized visions of New York City constantly to prove they're the most sophisticated person who went to their suburban high school, date around first methodically and then haphazardly, crash out at 29, find a guy who grew up in another suburb, and leave the city to go raise a family in Westchester or New Jersey, where they become upstanding citizens and love to talk about their wild free youth in the city as if they didn't spend the entire time scrolling Instagram and copying every trend. They drive the nightlife in this town -- the restaurants and clubs -- with an ambitious desperation and singleminded enthusiasm that any other demographic can only DREAM of. They are an intrinsic part of the NYC experience and you should put respect on their names, these Carolines and Jessicas keep this city moving.
