@TezomoPepdici I don’t want to dampen the great stuff that’s been happening with Tezos lately, but am shocked Arthur is giving lectures on opportunity costs. I mean the opp cost of holding xtz this long has been enormous, and he seems to act so indifferent to that.

A legit concern for blockchain governance in general. How can these effects be mitigated?

The biggest problem with focusing on "governance allows you to vote with your wallet" is the following: Buying (more) ADA is a rational financial decision for someone who thinks everything is going great, since he expects the price to go up (because he thinks everything is going great). However, for someone who thinks things are going in the wrong direction and need to be changed, buying ADA isn't a rational financial decision, since he expects the price to go down (because he thinks things are worsening). Consequently, it is natural for people who like the current path to buy more and get more (relative) voting power. In contrast, it is also natural for people who do not like the current path to buy less or sell and reduce their (relative) voting power. These two forces obviously lead to a governance echo bubble primarily consisting of people who agree that everything is excellent as it is. This can now be seen live on Cardano.

Nearly 10 million XTZ have been unstaked in the last few days. People planning to sell or getting ready to sell? To be expected after Tezos investors have been beaten down over the years and excited about the recent 100% increase...but one of these days, I hope it's like when I sold my 3,622 ETH for ~$2 in 2016. 🤞 Some people spend their early BTC on pizzas, I spent my early ETH on an infrared sauna for @QuantifyFitness 😅 “We didn’t come this far just to come this far.” 🦾
