@Kyochi_Myogo @DanFriedman81 @ChowdhuryF33314 If US won the war, why is US not in control of the strait? If the ability to close the strait is just symbolic, why did closing is cause oil prices to double? Iran still has the world's economy by its throat as long as they decide when oil leaves the strait and when it dosent.

@_Spiritbear_ @DanFriedman81 @ChowdhuryF33314 Hebollah may collapse now with these strikes. Selective closing of the strait (not “straight,” professor) is a weak and almost purely symbolic response to pacify the hardliners (who are currently accusing the new Ayatollah of surrendering to Trump, by the way).

Nothing Israel does in Lebanon will derail the ceasefire, because Iran cannot endure what happens next if the war continues. Israel bombed Beirut 100 times and likely killed most of the leaders of Hezbollah today. In response, Iran launched zero ballistic missiles. Iran will not go back to war, because if they do, it’s immediately Power Plant Day. The regime can’t stop the complete destruction of its infrastructure, and it can’t meaningfully retaliate for US and Israeli strikes on its infrastructure. They bet that closing the Strait of Hormuz would hurt America more than America would hurt Iran, but they underestimated how much Trump was willing to hurt them, and now they have to surrender or face total destruction. By showing up to negotiate in Islamabad while Israel is destroying Hezbollah, they will have already agreed to let go of their proxy in Lebanon. And that’s not all they’re going to let go of before this is finished.
Glenn Greenwald@ggreenwald

But even if JD is correct about htis "good faith misunderstanding," the question now for the US is: What's more important: (a) Trump's desire for a cease-fire deal to stop this war or (b) Israel's desire to massacre people in Lebanon as much as it wants?

Never been so proud of the U.S. Military! All my life we've been in a forever war. Now, they have defeated Iran in under 40 days. There is no greater military blow out in history. All America needed was a new President and new leadership. Thank you Trump & Hegseth!

@ChowdhuryF33314 You’re the one coping, insisting Iran won the war as it stands by helplessly while Israel occupies South Lebanon and airstrikes Hezbollah leadership in Beirut.

@jenks_burgh @pitp23_kim @josh_joa @johnpavlovitz Mojtaba Khamenei is more radical than his father. Yea, you got a new regime, an even more radicalized one. His dad at least denied wanting uranium for nuclear weapons, only energy. Mojtaba feely admits his nuclear ambitions. And now hes got a lot of revenge to exact.

@ZoomerGOP @thereal_truther @SecKennedy All petty stuff. Food scarcity for the poor has increased, environmental protections against asbestos and led poisoning removed, costs of receiving even primary care unaffordable. But yea, changing a food coloring in food few people eat is a "win" and making us healthier

@TheVotersSay @mark_slapinski I dont understand why the war was over on march 11 if the goals were far from being reached, and still are not. I see your list, none are achieved a month after the claim of "was is over". Trump needs to say i was wrong to claim the war over a month ago, we have long to go.

@_Spiritbear_ @mark_slapinski You seem confused. The current objectives are to: destroy Iran's ballistic missile capability, regular missile factories, drone factories and to prevent Iran from being able to restart its nuclear program.

@mark_slapinski It was explained right up front. Were you not paying attention? The goal was to destroy/degrade Iran’s nuclear program, destroy/degrade its ballistic missile capability, and destroy/degrade missile and drone factories.

@JimHansonDC @piersmorgan The nuclear threat was ended back in june. So why was the war continued? Could it be they were lying, a classic case of blaming others for what you are guilty of yourself?

@piersmorgan The goal was to end the threat of a nuclear Iran and to stop their missile production. Those both happened. Threatening the Strait was a known hazard which has now been dealt with and as the Islamic Republic fades away will cease to be a problem. Take the win Piers.

America/Israel may have won the war on the battlefield, but Iran won the war on the waterways, paralysed the world’s energy supplies, and caused huge global economic damage. That’s why President Trump has moved to do a deal. It’s not a ‘historic victory’ or anything like it.

They are imposing "fees" on some ships, but not others. This is against international law and is being challenged by many countries. It will not stand. Most ships are refusing it right now...and waiting. Nothing has been agreed to. The US took out their nuclear capabilities -- which every other country wanted but was too cowardly to do. That was the goal of the mission.

We didn't get a forever war. You weren't drafted to die for Israel. Gas didn't go to $6 a gallon. We didn't put boots on the ground. We didn't get a flood of refugees. None of your predictions came true. And yet none of you will admit you were wrong.
