This was the beginning from start. The club made Mbappe the face of the club which is natural, so it was like a demotion for Vini.
If Mbappe came before or immediately Benzema left, then Mbappe would have been the face without Vini even been the franchise player at any point.
But the fact that Vini was the face of the club for a whole year and then a bigger player comes and takes that mantle, that’s a hard pill to swallow, this is one of the reasons Vini didn’t take those substitutions well. No big player will take it well though.
You’d have to understand Vini’s angle. He didn’t handle the situation well though, handled it really badly from the beginning till the end, but going from being the franchise player to another person getting that mantle, not an easy pill to swallow.
Once again, blame the board.

The problem at Real Madrid is simple. Vinicius Junior was the face of the club before Kylian Mbappe arrived. Even when Jude Bellingham was performing better that season, the club and fans still pushed Vini heavily for the Ballon d’Or. But Mbappe arriving changes the hierarchy automatically. No matter how much Vini tries, Mbappe will naturally become the face of the project. Any major spotlight or individual award attention at the club will likely shift toward him and honestly, I understand the tension. No one wants to spend their whole career living in another man’s shadow.
