This tweet turned out to be an invitation for every imbecile on planet Earth to leave their worthless opinion.
OK, look how it plays out in practice.
I needed a certain functionality in magit. It wasn't googleable and it took me a lot of time to explain to the clanker what I want, because it kept losing context and running in circles.
So I kept arguing with the clanker, asking it to do this and that until I got an idea, which finally made the whole thing work.
If this was a Stack Overflow interaction, it would've become an addition to their _public_ high-quality data.
Instead it's now buried on some proprietary OpenAI server and is likely not being used for training. At best it's a signal in the ocean of noise and only accessible by a single AI company -- not available to the public or other AI companies.
This is just a single example. Lots of things have become weak proprietary signals among vast amounts of noise -- which previously would've ended up being data in carefully curated datasets.

Stack Overflow was one of the best things that ever happened to the tech industry, and its downfall will send shockwaves far into the future, because there will no longer be a source of high‑quality well‑structured data to train AI on.

@kilohearts I really like it but I’m going to cancel it because a year’s subscription doesn’t give me any more benefits than someone purchasing things on Black Friday. Unfortunately that doesn’t feel like good loyalty. 😔
English

@_cmdv_ We do try to state this in all relevant places, but we will take another look at the wording on our site and in our emails to make sure it’s clearer for everyone. Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate it. And we hope you've been enjoying the subscription. ❤️
English

Sucks that if you get a @kilohearts subscription your are lured in with "getting $100 credit per year". Then comes black Friday they give $100 off but you can't use the credit you've accumulated. So I've already spent $140 and get exactly same discount as someone that hasn't 😭

I just got a free month for @Telegraph , don’t normally bother with the news and a week in I remember why!! Readers can also comment on articles, most of the comments are by the uk version of truth social members 😢 Glad it was free, won’t be doing that again!

Been having a play with Rust 🦀 and made this Spectrum Analyser audio plugin (not fully finished!). github.com/Cmdv/nih_plug_…
Quite different to Haskell but still cool you can make VST/CLAP plugins. Had to learn a bunch of DSP concepts, Nih_plug, Iced and Rust but it's doable 😅

@BristowEwan @borraxca I’m coming from being a developer to wanting to learn DSP (recently been learning Rust & github.com/robbert-vdh/ni…) looks like plugdata will aid in the dsp part but wondering if you had any other sources I could look?
English

@borraxca I get ya. Plugdata is improving every day so I'm sticking with it. I'm learning rust too, just in case, but I'm sticking with plugdata.

@sjfloat sometimes it can take days/weeks which pains me more but I wanted to be general 😂
English

@_cmdv_ At least you seemed to have established correlation.

@TechnoEmpress I really struggle to leave doom eMacs because of magit, buffer/tab switching, snipe, bookmarks.. damn that’s quite a lot and there’s more I can think of. Had a go at Zed but think it’s more intended for people doing vscode -> zed
English

@effectfully @mpeytonjones @int_index Let’s play devil’s advocate here! Should consideration in growing up also be taken if one is allowing them selves to be offended in the first place? 😈
It’s unlikely the perceived mistake will be put right by attacking the beholder? 🤷
English

@mpeytonjones @int_index No, pointing out mistakes is classy and should be normalized. If somebody gets offended by somebody's opinion along the lines of "seniors should know better than that" (regardless of whether it's true or not), they should consider growing up.

@capajj @gillchristian @AnthropicAI Agreed Claude has given me much nicer/concise results than gpt when doing coding

This is good resource, though slightly bias towards the creators beliefs github.com/graninas/softw…
