A year ago, a group of us went to Austin to testify for legislation aimed at protecting our communities from the consequences of irresponsible bail reform. It was a long day. It was emotional. But in the end, it was successful.
I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done so far, and I’m looking forward to the next session to see how much more we can accomplish. I’m especially grateful to have stood alongside such strong, dedicated friends that day. 🫶🏼🦋 #TCVU

To fund police checks on every registered sex offender in Austin, the city would need to cut just 1.25% of its DEI office budget.

Austin has roughly 2,200 registered sex offenders. Last year, police knocked on just 369 doors. Police checks of sex offenders: Fort Worth: 3,368 San Antonio: 3,092 Austin: 369 In 2024, APD managed about 1,100 checks after putting up overtime funding. Then the city cut that budget. Checks fell 67%. The overtime budget that made 1,100 checks possible in 2024: $40,000. The city cut it. If you do the rough math, it would cost just $79,000/year for the city to do a check on all sex offenders. For comparison: The city's DEI office budget this year: $6.3 million -- up from $5.4 million last year.

i took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me “is he a robot??” i tried to explain to him that no, he isn’t a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume “i am robot i am robot i am robot i am robot”
