@aB_Radd Curves. Which was important to me so that I could render them even without the base geometry.
Your research seems a lot more involved. I never got that far.

@RohanCreates I love it! it looks very smooth. My method was intended for finding ways of simulating overdrawn lines, secondary offset lines, basically anything to make it look like a rough sketch. In the end was just too heavy to do anything with. Are your lines curves or just color data?

@aB_Radd I did a flip book with my method. It was about 7 seconds a frame. But i think most of that comes from the shadow calculation rather than the outline generation.

@RohanCreates Yea totally not necessary, but I used it to get more point info so the curves would persist if the geometry was animating.

I never even got till VDB. there's an option in the group node to select by camera. I just used that.

@Clarknova1 it's ok, they're posting pictures with lame repeated taglines, they've already shot themselves in the foot

@RohanCreates My (heavy) solution used VDB to cull points that weren't on the facing angle of the camera, and then create curves out of those points. then i could do "thickness along curve" or copy sprites to the planes, etc. Would love to figure out a way to optimize!

@RohanCreates @aeioweyou The ink is actually a bunch bitmaps on planes copied to points on the curve! The watercolor is just a texture map, blending between a frontal and UV projection

I think the smarter way would be to generate the lines and then overlay a texture in a compositing software to break them up.
