@StuartKenny33 @marksandgran Another baffling decision revealed in their interview. ITV said no! ITV had Birds Of A Feather doing well for them and another guaranteed hit was offered to them. I do not understand television!

Goodnight Sweetheart not going to series after the 2016 BBC sitcom season was baffling. It had the best audience appreciation scores of all the pilots. Plus the original star & writers. If it was a BBC Studios show it would have happened. @marksandgran youtu.be/Hv5PzmoArPE?si…

@daryl_millar @CameronYardeJnr I reckon there's still a place for specific channel controllers in a digital landscape, helping to curate specific and distinctive styles for the channels and their programmes, which can then equally feed into boosting the variety on iPlayer.

@abacatmagic @CameronYardeJnr A difficulty might be the "digital first" strategy where the BBC commission shows first and then find a channel to put them on. So you end up with shows on BBC One which don't really feel like "BBC One".

While I vent about divvy decisions. BBC2 was glorious in the 90s/early noughties. They took some of its budget to create BBC3 & BBC4 which made BBC2 lose its identity for years. Closed BBC3 as a linear channel, so it lost an audience that never returned when the channel returned.
Cameron Yarde Jnr@CameronYardeJnr

A history of divvy decisions have hurt British broadcasting. Project Kangaroo, which would've had a joint BBC/ITV/Channel 4 VOD service, being axed. The junk food ban killing advertising & therefore budget for CITV, the 1990 Broadcasting Act, BBC3's linear Chanel closed. Ruinous!

@CameronYardeJnr One of the biggest streamers in Australia is Stan, which is locally-owned and ran by their Channel 9. It's on a similar peg over there to the big fish and got in there before Netflix even hit the Aussie market, albeit by just 2 months. Kangaroo could have been a similar story.

@CameronYardeJnr I think Kangaroo could have put up a really strong fight against the big American streamers. What may have been anti-competitive in 2009 would be a relatively little fish 5 years later, but one that had the potential to really punch above its weight…

The Project Kangaroo disaster.
Jake Lawton@LawtonGamst

@CameronYardeJnr Yep, no foresight whatsoever when it was blocked. It was all ready to be rolled out too. Gave an open goal to American big tech companies to take all the market share from British broadcasters. Doesn’t look like they’ll ever recover the lost ground. Insane decision.

@CameronYardeJnr I must note I do find some of the CBBC programmes pushed onto BBC3 to be slightly odd (SpongeBob on the same channel as Two Pints of Lager?) but some of their dramas might work.

@CameronYardeJnr I've got nothing against them showing BBC3 programmes on BBC1, and similarly a lot of CBBC has been getting shown on BBC1, BBC2 and BBC3, which no doubt boosts awareness for British children's television and in this day and age, that is nothing but a good thing.

@pheestalgia Very true! commercial television in the UK really lacks its own children's programmes now, I really think there should be more safeguards to protect production of british kids and young people's TV. I have huge respect to the BBC and Milkshake for continuing to make the effort.

Did You Know? Not only did Adult Swim air eight episodes of Saved by the Bell from April 17-27, 2006, but ahead of the show's network premiere they also jokingly rebranded as "Crappy 1980's Live Action TV Show Network"!
