Problem: Ideally, everyone is responsible for quality. But, if everyone is responsible, no one is responsible. Solution: Establish a code owner. This person is officially responsible for code quality. This could be the team lead, or a senior developer. What’s a code owner do to ensure quality? Pair program. Review code. Foster reuse. Coach others. Update dependencies. Remove needless complexity. Help make key technical decisions. Find and resolve security, accessibility, performance issues. The code owner is given flexibility in their daily schedule to perform these tasks. Again, ideally everyone does these things. But a code owner assures all this happens because *it's their job*. Does your team have a code owner? If so, how's it work? Do you use a different term? Who does it?

When I see multiple optional TypeScript fields on a type, I ask: Are these optional fields related? Can we create a discriminated union to narrow the type and document required combinations of props? Are some of these optional fields required in some contexts? If so, when? Can we split this into two separate, more narrow types? Is there a needless boolean/type prop that determines when the optional fields are required? Could we derive this value by grouping the related fields under an object?

"Microservices are hard, do modular monoliths instead!" OK but one of the hardest parts of building microservices is defining the boundaries, and those boundaries will be similar/identical in a modular monolith

I’ve retired from software… process. No scrum, dds, tdd, stand ups, devops, sre, micro services, retrospectives, pre and post mortems… Instead, we just build and run software together. We do use an issue tracker and a good readme. Everyone posts an eod update to our group with demo/insights from their day. Plain and simple. It’s pure bliss.

She was a ray of light in the world, kind-hearted, gentle and loving. Her smile was one that could be seen from afar. 11 days passed until she was identified and the message reached her home. Her mother had one request, to identify her herself, but the man who came with the message said, "There is nothing left to identify", and added, "we have a piece of her spine, and 3 teeth". This is a story about Karin. She went to the Nova event with her friends and didn't give up even though she was recovering from a broken leg. At 08:42am, Karin called her mother and said, "Mom, they are shooting at us, I am dying of fear. If something happens to me, I love you. They are firing live fire at us", and she hung up. But Karin couldn't run. She reached the designated ambulance parked at the Nova, it was supposed to be a safe place, but the terrorists fired an RPG into it as soon as they discovered people inside. All of them were burned alive. 137 days since that morning and then a package arrived to her home, inside, what was left of a watch she wore on her hand. This is a story about an entire life and dreams that were cut short. A story about absolute evil versus pure good. This is the story of the angelic Karin who didn't come back from the Nova. She's smiling in heaven now. Her spirit is with us forever.

Doing a code review without running the code is like doing a quality check blindfolded. 🚩I have to use my imagination. 🚩I have to run the code in my head. 🚩I have to envision what the UX might be. This severely limits my effectiveness, and makes my job as a reviewer harder. The solution is simple: I run pull requests as part of my review.

@EmmaBostian People bring more of their “problems” to work, you just didn’t hear about them as a peer. First time getting direct reports I hugely underestimated the amount of time that gets into making people at ease vs helping them progress in their careers

"My father stood at the entrance to the bomb shelter with a board from my sister's bed, They came in and shot him right away. He screamed, 'No no no' and we were sitting huddled in the corner of the room. They brought us out, we went over my father, we saw him lying with his hands up. We didn't even get down to kiss him or say goodbye. It was all foggy and they were screaming, and then my sister fainted and was also shot." -Former hostage Agam Goldstein-Almog

Sergeant Gaya, a paramedic in the IDF, treated wounded soldiers under fire in Gaza and was shot by Hamas sniper. Although Gaya was very badly injured, she continued to treat and save lives heroically until she was rescued. Today she is recovering from her injury, and says: "I don't regret it for a moment, I wanted to enter Gaza with the forces, to help and contribute for Israel"

"Hostages spoke about rape in captivity. She's one of the youngest hostages. Our family is broken" 19-year-old Agam Berger has been held in Hamas captivity for 81 days. Her father shared her story with Israeli radio today: "At 7:45am, she had a very brief conversation with us while we were in the shelter, with poor reception, and she said 'they are shooting at us, I am scared dad!'" Only the next morning did her father see a video that Hamas posted, showing Agam being forcibly taken by Hamas men into Gaza. Her father said that news of her being alive came with the release of some of the hostages from captivity during the temporary ceasefire a few weeks ago, but the family is still in complete turmoil. "The former hostages who returned to Israel share information that on one hand is positive, on the other hand is horrifying,” he noted. "She is a young girl, 19 years old, among the youngest who remained there. I don't want to even think about what might be happening to her there. People who returned spoke of rape and sexual violence. I shut myself off and don't want to think about it - but we are anxious about her fate," he said. At the end of the interview, Shlomi turned to his daughter, hoping his words would reach her: "Agam, we miss you very much, waiting for you to come home, just come back, we love you, please be for us strong, we are here trying to be strong for you." Bring them all home now.

Hamas terrorists tied up a mother and her 10 year old daughter, doused them in gasoline, and set them on fire. They died in each other’s arms. • @Harvard students called it ‘resistance’ ✊ • The @UN refused to condemn it 🙊 • @UN_Women refused to acknowledge it at all 🙉 • Hamas supporters on Twitter denied it completely 🙈 We see you, you cowards. We see you.

In Hadar's last phone call from the music festival to her parents, she said that terrorists were shooting everywhere and that she was going into a garbage can to hide from them. 16 friends went inside with Hadar and then a Hamas terrorist came and sprayed them all with gunfire, 4 survived. This is her last picture. #October7massacre #HamasMassacre

"This is Naama, my daughter. Naama was kidnapped from her bed in her pajamas. She is a teenager, she is a girl. We know it’s hell over there in Gaza, for a young girl like Naama it’s even more critical. Every day she is over there, she's in hell. All the world cannot be quiet when young innocent girls are kidnapped from their beds and no one know what is happening to them for so long time. This is totally crazy, what happened to all the humanitarian organizations? what happened to the Red Cross? they disappeared. My daughter is wounded. She needs to be back home, tomorrow" Yoni Levi, Father of Naama Levy who was brutally kidnapped by Hamas on October 7th, almost 70 days ago. @i24NEWS_EN
