@cobbo3 Pole Charles! I know it is hard for me to argue at this point along the reason of "....it's for your own safety...." I agree, perhaps the ID return process could be managed better, but without that stringent checks, it can be fetal.

Attended a touching conference at the United Nations Complex, Gigiri, Nairobi. Getting in took like 10 minutes, getting out took nearly one-and-a/half hours, as long as the main conference. It was due to the mess of getting back IDs/passports and narrow exits. After nearly 30 years you’d imagine they’d have figured this out. Then it struck me, and apologies to my many friends (and relatives) at the UN. The place runs on a prison logic; easy to get in, tough to get out, mixed in with the structure of a minority/apartheid state structured to cater to a few, as the masses gaze from the fence. Thought I would sit on this, but it cried too loudly to get out.

I have heard with great sadness the death of Dr Opiote, a former personal physician to President Milton Obote. Dr Opiote was one of the most loyal people to Obote that I ever met. A simple man with a sharp mind, he possessed the gift of high intelligence and great humility. He carried himself with grace and was polite to all who met him. His name was Opio, and he added “te” drawn from the last two letters of Obote’s name. It was an expression of his love and loyalty to that icon of Uganda’s independence and African liberation. So dedicated to Obote was Dr Opiote that he lived the rest of his life with Milton. Even when Obote died, Dr Opiote continued to live and look after mama Miria Obote. While interviewing Obote for his autobiography, Dr Opiote was continually the source of details and corrections as Milton narrated to me his escape from Uganda on the morning of July 27, 1985. Fans of Obote will miss this gentle and polite doctor who made everyone feel respected and appreciated around him. May his soul RIP.
