Calling for an end to aerial bombardments is the sanest thing anyone has done and it is staggering that it hasn’t been done before now. This form of war is inherently cowardly, and takes a staggering toll on civilians and all forms of life. This call should be adopted by every progressive party and form the core of a global anti-war movement.
Christopher Hale@ChristopherHale

NEW: No modern pope has sustained a campaign of this scope against an active American military operation. In twenty-five days, the U.S.-born Pope Leo XIV has told Christian soldiers to promote peace, ordered Catholic politicians who perpetuate war to go to confession, called for a permanent ban on aerial bombing, and demanded a ceasefire — repeatedly, publicly, and without apology. thelettersfromleo.com/p/hatred-is-in…

When I was 19 I found out a Zionist had made a list of every American he could find who had criticized Israel. There were tens of thousands of people on the list w/ reasons given for why they deserved to be labeled an enemy target. I was shocked to find my dad on the list because he had signed an anti-war petition. It is laughable to suggest my father is an anti-semite, but he is strongly anti-war. I, being 19 & extraordinarily naive, contacted the maker of the list to explain this was about war, not anti-semitism, and asked him to take down such a dangerous "enemies" list. He responded cheerfully that I was obviously also an "enemy of Israel" because I was opposed to making "enemy lists" and so he added my name to it and wished death upon me. The next 20 years taught me that wasn't a fringe character - that is contemporary media & political policy. The deliberate mixing of criticism of Israel with antisemitism is the actual revolting bad-faith practice and has no place in a polite, free, or (dare we hope one day) loving society.

If genAI is so "good" then lets put a tag on everything produced with it. Tag your products, tag your writing, hell tag your college diploma. Lets see what the market actually thinks when AI usage is fully disclosed.

When I was in my 20s I wished to deepen my understanding of the Israel-Palestine situation. So I purchased at least a dozen books - mostly semi-obscure, academic, many by dissenting Israeli historians. A day came when I closed a book halfway through, resolved to read no further, even to try to forget all I had learned, and then I donated all the books. It was clear, painfully and miserably clear, that I would be wasting my life trying to understand it more when it was nothing more than this.

The United States Postal Service, USPS, doesn’t “lose” money. It costs money. It’s a public service. Don’t fall for the privatization propaganda.

Black kidney patients were blocked or delayed from transplants by a race-based medical formula that made their kidneys appear healthier, delaying life-saving care. Now research shows thousands are receiving restored wait-list time through restorative justice efforts, with a median increase of 1.7 years, meaning many patients regained more than a year and a half of lost waiting time. We must keep speaking truth to power until health care equity is real! apnews.com/article/kidney…

In the 17th century, if someone became ill and the doctor couldn’t explain the symptoms, he’d suggest witches were at work. This is what doctors sound like to me nowadays when they chalk everything they don’t understand up to anxiety.

It's difficult not to see it as a kind of dystopia. What's truly remarkable is how reflexively people defend it by saying, 'but you have to make a living,' as though that somehow ends the discussion. At some point, quietly and without much debate, 'making a living' came to mean little more than submitting to corporate authority for most of one's waking hours. The really strange part is how completely we've been persuaded this arrangement is simply common sense.

nobody told me this when I started working a 9-5: - it's not even a 9-5. every job I've had has been 8 to 6. - you get home, cook dinner, and don't feel like doing anything else for the rest of the day. then it's right back to work before you know it. - you used to play guitar. you used to read books. you used to work out. they just slowly get phased out of you and you don't even notice it happening. - you eat lunch at your desk because the job is understaffed and you have too much to do. that "1 hour break" they sold you doesn't exist. - you leave the house at 7. you get home at 6. you are physically and mentally exhausted. this is a "good" day. - you sit at your desk and can't get past 5 minutes without being the most bored you've ever been in your life - you feel ready to have a mid-life crisis in 3 years let alone before you turn 40 - one day you realise you're giving up 5 days of your life every single week just to have a few hours at night and 2 days on the weekend. and you just accept it.

I’ve been asked (and rejected) twice this past month for creative roles for not using AI in my workflow. Hear me when I say this: I will go to my fucking grave before using that trash. I’m a professional commercial artist. Fuck genAI and every idiot/company that uses it.
